Three…. Two…

November Nightmare…   only two to go kids!

Bloody hell, the ‘end of (good) times’  is nearly upon us.  This month sees the SECOND TO LAST EVER NIGHTMARE on the 21st, (and we’re really serious about this) so you’d bloody well better get yourself down to the Old Angel for Nottingham’s best loved Alternative/Industrial/Ebm night while you can.

I know a lot of you might be thinking to yourself ‘ah I’ll definitely make the last one…’ the problem with that guys is about 300 people are thinking that and we’re a 140 capacity venue!  So if you want to make sure you were at one of the last ever ones after a decade of underground sound… well get down to this one too.

To help twist your arm we’ve booked in the services of the incredibly talented (and sexy!) DJ Synne for tune selection as our special guest DJ.  For those of you that don’t know Dj Synne was one of our first ever guest DJs at ‘mare and you’ve probably no doubt seen her on the decks all over the world but most likely you’d have bopped to her sets at InFest, Slimelight,Vain, Redeemer/Retribution and other top nights.

Joining her on the sound-mongering front are Nightmare resident DJs Urban Cannibal, DJ False and Gadge Europe bringing you six hours of boshing beats and alternative anthems.

We’ve no dress code or them this month but you can still get fantastically cheap drink buy sending off for an old angel card from the angels website.

So to recap.

Nightmare’s penultimate party

Saturday 21st November 2009

Entry: £5

Times: 9pm til 3am (no admit after 12:00)

Venue: The Old Angel, Stoney Street Nottingham

And now for some important news about the final December Xmas party.

Righty ho, as we’ve mentioned *a lot* of people want to be there for the end of the era and our final night after a decade of partying hard.

To make it a blowout we’ll be having two rooms again (second room from 12:00) and we’ll be staying open *much* later than normal and have our very own santa clause  in his grotto with gifts for the good… god we’re good to you you know?

The problem  with all this is we’re highly likely to reach capacity very quickly.  So we’ve decided to have a limited ‘advance ticket’ list of 50 places.  So if you *definitely* want to be at the party of the year then you can book a reserved place with us and we’ll hold this for you until 12:00 (after which with only one hour left to allow entry I’m afraid we cant hold if you’re not there by then unless we’ve had specific instructions that you finish work at 12 etc).   But up until that point your name will be held by our doorstaff and you’ll definitely be able to get in no messing.

So if you’d like to be on our reserved list send a paypal amount of £5.50 per person (you can send £5 per person if you mark it as a ‘gift’ and ‘money owed’ so I don’t get dicked by paypal for charges..) to:

Gadge@nightmare.org.uk

Please state on the mail/form the number of people you have booked for and their full names.

Please note this is non refundable if you don’t turn up.

Nightmare and Heresy and Heels part company.

Hi Guys

Just a short note to let you know that Nightmare have recently dissolved their association with Heresy and Heels Burlesque night at the Derby Rockhouse over professional and musical differences.

To that end Dj Gadge Europa (i.e me) will not be playing at the November Xmas special as may have been otherwise advertised online or on flyers.

Just to let you know so that nobodies disappointed if they find we're not there!

Nightmare wish H&H all the best with any future endeavours however.

Yours

Gadge and the Nightmare team.

19 August 2009

Waking from a ten year nightmare…

Listen up you sexydethchix and industrial bois…uncle Gadge has what many will feel to be some very bad news.

The sad fact is that as of January 2010 Nightmare will be no more. Well I say sad but to be honest to us as crew we feel that this is the best thing to do for Nottingham’s best loved industrial night. So….

Were killing it dead, finito, terminus est.. the end…

The reason?

Well essentially we feel we’ve achieved what we wanted from the night and that its time to call it a day.

We want to be remembered as John Lennon and not Paul McCartney although we don’t want to do a Hendrix and choke on our own vomit – or anyone else’s vomit, you cant dust for vomit…better to burn out than fade away and all that. We’ve done a lot and its been a great ten years but we honestly feel that we cannot develop the club or move it forwards in any significant way. In essence to carry on would really be treading water, we’d rather create a space for some enterprising kids to set up a new innovative new night.

It safe to say that Nightmare has changed the face of the UK industrial scene, we were among the first if not the first industrial nights to incorporate such diverse styles as drum and bass, electroclash and hardstyle into the traditional track listing of a goth alternative night. When we started doing Nightmare most clubs really did stick to either goth or industrial and simply didn’t take risks… now the sort of music policy we championed has been adopted across the UK. We feel we’ve achieved something, we had some awesome nights, some very messy nights, we’ve seen blood sweat and tears (once or twice all at the same time) and we’ve made a lot of people very happy and introduced some cracking new music. We’ve put on bands, had the strangest fancy dress parties and the most debauched after parties!

But it simply cant go on forever…

So just to let you know that Decembers Xmas fancy dress ball will be the last ever monthly Nightmare, were not saying ‘last ever if the numbers are not up’ were saying its the last ever. Period.

So you’ve got a mere five months to party away and have Nightmare remembered at the *the* alternative clubnight of the norties! (note this is to give you plenty of warning this was going to happen and to put to bed any comments that we’d decided to bin it after a bad event, we’ve decided to bin it when its actually picking up again after a difficult 2008)

I’d like to thank all of those who have made it possible for us to have such a successful industrial revolution over the last decade.

Firstly the venues, our excellent hosts and current home the old angel, the now defunct, Sugar Bar, the friendly Bar None whose regular clientele we probably disturbed a bit. How can one forget the legendary spiders, a place custom built for nightmare and probably one of our finest hours and the cavernous old Vic where it all began.

I need to thank Chris Molyneux (co creator of infest with me) who also co-ran the first year or so of ‘mare and without whom it simply would not have happened but I also need to thank all our resident and guest DJs. We’ve had so many great guests over the past I’d be struggling to name them all but feel I must make a mention to former residents. So a big thanks to: DJ Christ, Vicky Fenbane, Guy Berrega and Myko Corum who have all held the mantle of ‘Nightmare DJ’ in the past.

We cant thank the amazingly talented Rachael Huntington enough for not only designing us some ace Nightmare characters but also being kind enough to loan us her images for one off specials.

Equally I’d like to thank the current team who put up with my moods, rages and terrible puns so thanks Claire, Del, Sian, Davian, Jay, Emma, Matt, Simon and Sarah.

One last mention I have to make is of the guys who helped us get of the ground in Nottingham when we first came here in January 2000… without Clive and Lisa of Cyberpolis, Trev Bamford and the Nightbreed crew and the staff of Void we probably would never have come so far.

But most of all I have to thank you, the nightmare kids who have supported us in being one of the most fun nights around for a decade!

So on behalf of all of us and in particularly myself, DJ False and DJ Urban Cannibal once again thank you for letting us get away with it for so long

So come along, make the best of the last days and party with us while Rome burns

(NB This decision was made after Julys very successful nightmare, we just didn’t want to steal the thunder of the bands by announcing it until after Augusts!)

Nightmare news – August

Hang on to your hats kids… we’ve once again decided to put on not one but two amazing bands at this month’s Nightmare.

So, pencil in August the 16th at the Old Angel for a stomper of a night.

After Mays band extravaganza I thought we’d not do it again for a while but we got an offer too good for us to refuse.

The legendary GOTEKI are playing a one off show for us on August 16th.  I’m sure non of you really need reminding how good Ross and the guys are but for those not in the know Goteki grew out of the seminal Sneaky Bat Machine to be one of the scenes favourite bands over the last decade.  Combining boshing beats, amazing tunes and a healthy sense of humour Goteki will rock your socks off.

And in a further coup we’ve managed to persuade the fledging yet rather brilliant electro duo Method Cell to play a support slot for Goteki. Playing tracks off their new EP ‘Scissors’, these guys are not to be missed!

For those not that interested in watching two bloody amazing bands, however,  we have our usual fare of the finest electro industrial music you can shake a stick at.

Resident DJs urban Cannibal and Dj False will be providing a suitably eclectic, electric soundscape for the nights proceedings as DJ Gadge Europa once again skives off to get drunk!

Now on to the serious stuff, we won’t be running a downstairs room this month as to be frank we found last month it was better to keep everyone more or less in one place and the activity of two bands will only serve to make this the more sensible option.

But… you will still be getting six hours of the best new music, the coolest DJs sexiest clientele and the cheapest drinks with our incredible £2 a pint offers on the upstairs bar… remember its bloody stupid to buy drinks for quid more downstairs when you can get em cheaper upstairs!

And on a final note, please do come and support the music scene, without support for bands we cant bring you new music and without new music its pointless running a clubnight.  If you want the scene you love to thrive then come and support it rather than downloading it.

So to recap.

Nightmare presents:

GOTEKI

And

METHOD CELL

First band on around 10.30pm

On Saturday 16th August

Venue: The old Angel
Entry: £5
Dress Code: Dress to Impress
Hours: 9pm til 3am

One day you’ll be able to tell your kids that ‘you were there…’

STOP PRESS

Next month we’ll hopefully be opening up a new room at nightmare.  Opening up from 12.30 each night, this new room will be more of a chill out lounge. This neatly resolves two of the requests we always get, namely somewhere to sit and for those music requests that might not be so appropriate for a 2am dancefloor. We can only make this work, however, with your support – and on that note the Nightmare team would like to sincerely thank you all for making us one of Nottingham’s greatest nights over the last nine years.

So   the team will exclaim ere we rave through the night,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night(mare)."

Saturday 15th November.

Heya kids once again its time for a November instalment of your fave night out - Nightmare!  As we started in November 2000 this officially marks nine whole years of Nottingham’s premier cyber/electro/industrial night!

Hiiii–yaaah!

Right then you dirty gweilo’s it’s time to get yourself down to the Old Angel again for an extra special helping of Nightmare this Saturday.

Not only do we have special guest DJ Akasi from top Notts night ‘Chaos’ playing as our guest DJ & not only is it our pre-infest festival warm up party but we’re also putting on a sexy oriental organised crime theme night – we spoil you we really do…

DJs Gadge Europa, DJ False and Urban Cannibal will be joined this week by Chaos’s (formerly Chaos Theory) DJ Akasi and between us we’ll be playing you the very best in industrial, electro, ebm, and techno.  It’s also Infest this month and even though I’m bizarrely banned from the show I invented, I still want the rest of you to have a banging time so this month we’ll be playing a big selection of tunes from artists and bands featured at Infest 08. So if you’re going and you haven’t heard some of the acts then pop along to nightmare for a taster.

So what’s this Chinese Mafia business then I hear you ask (well to be honest you probably don’t really care that much but anyway…)?

Well its like this, think 1920s, think shanghai, think Chinese dresses, think pinstripe suits, think tommy guns.. sprinkle on an bit of industrial, add a pinch of cyber and that’s kind of what we had in mind.

You don’t *have* to dress up but its fucking cool when we all do J

So to recap:

Nightmare pre infest party with guest Dj Asakai.

Doors 10pm til a bit later than 2… (depends on how good you all are )

18 February 2008

No February Nightmare I'm afraid, but we are back at our new permanent home The Old Angel on our new permanent day The Third Saturday of the Month from the 15th March with a special Fancy Dress Event: When I Grow Up I Want To Be...

10 January 2008

Nine years of Nightmare? Yeah, but only just…

It’s that time again, time for another instalment of Nottingham’s sexiest cyber night, Nightmare!

Join us to celebrate our NINTH year as one of the UK’s leading alternative nights, as we kick off the new year in a new venue!

This week resident DJs Gadge Europa, Urban Cannibal and False will be invading upstairs at the Old Angel to bring you top-notch tunes and stomping sounds – playing the best in new and classic EBM, Electro and Industrial (with maybe even the odd bit of goth and techno thrown in for good measure)!

So why not join the sexydethchix and industrialbois this Saturday at ‘mare?

So the new rules are:

Nightmare!   12th January 2008

Venue: Upstairs at the Old Angel

(just down the road from Sugar/Mahiki/Makali/Mularky/Rahi or whatever name it was on any given day)

10pm til 2am (and if we impress them maybe we get it til later?)

Entry: £5

Dress code: Dress to Impress!

Now here’s the sad but true bit…

We have (perhaps temporarily) lost the Sugar bar as a venue which is a shame, but the Old Angel have been diamond geezers in letting us have their venue at very short notice – and we need show them that we’re worth it.

Some of you are new to Nightmare and some of you old hands have been there since our first night way back in 2000 but hopefully you all still love it… help us keep on entertaining you by coming out this weekend and letting us put on a cracking show of strength.

Essentially guys, as with all things it boils down to a case of your industrial scene needs you – you use it or you lose it.

The sad fact is that venues can easily fill their halls on a Saturday night by putting on generic student nights, rock nights or similar ‘safe bets’- alternative (and in particular goth and industrial nights) are a risk.

If we can’t impress on venues that its worth putting on alternative nights they won’t have us back… so this really could be the very last Nightmare  – its up to you.

Its been a long journey and a fun one, sure we haven’t always got it right, sure we’ve changed since we started (the alternative is stagnation), sure music policy has changed with the prevailing winds of change and that might have at times not been what some folk liked while others loved it… but lets not let the story end here eh?

Love you all

Gadge

However we’ll have a prize for the best dressed jungle denizen and the smartest hunter all the same.

As usual superstar DJs Gadge, Urban Cannibal and False will be playing all those tune that make you go ape… the very best in Electro, ebm, industrial and hardstyle.. some faves and some cracking new floorfillers!

Nightmare news This Saturday’s ‘mare is going to be a bit special. For a start we’ve shanghaied legendary Slimelight resident Matt C away from London’s best known industrial club to spin some tunes for *us* for the night! You don’t have to go to London.. we bring London to you.. aren’t we nice eh? So seeing as you’ve got a very good replacement superstar DJ for the night, resident DJ Gadge Europa will be hanging up his headphones this month and be concentrating on getting merry as part of a late birthday celebration (Its also False and Cannibals birthday too but they don’t get a night off! Offers of drinks and militaria readily accepted by Mr Europa)… but rest assured Nightmare veterans DJ False and Urban Cannibal will be backed up by DJ Corum to provide the Nightmare sound you know and love until 3am! And don’t forget, Nightmare is now back to its regular ‘Second Saturday’ slot every month for the foreseeable future. We also hope you all liked the improved sound last month… well that’s there to stay too, as are our wicked drinks promotions:
Drinks all night, are as follows:-

vodka, Bacardi, Archers and malibu, with a mixer are £1.50
XXXX is £1.50 a pint
Cocktails are two for one.

This means, that Nightmare not only has better tunes, but its actually cheaper than going to the pub beforehand.. we kick off at 9pm, so get there bright and early, with the chillout room too, there really is no excuse to keep that barkeep in business..

get your moneys worth, and save yourself a packet at the same time, it has to be a winner.

You know it makes sense, May 13th.. No need to pencil it in, go straight for the permanent marker, as usual, you don’t want to miss this.

9pm-3am, The Sugar bar, off Stoney Street, Hockley

Warning Order: Nightmare Themes Just to give you extra special advance notice so you can plan those costumes and creative doodahs…
June: ‘Welcome to the June-gle’ Come as a safari big game hunter or something wild!
August - ‘High Seas!’ - Pirates, Mermaids and Sailors ahoy. (not going to be at all gay that one is it..?)
November: ‘Fascion’ – Zoolander meets Paris fashion week, prizes for the most outrageous ‘fashion ‘ outfits… watch out for papperazi and a special dance floor ‘walkoff’.

And in other news…. Nightmare team on the BBC!Yep, that’s right Nightmare designer Emma and DJ Gadge were asked to take part in a BBC radio program this month on the Nottingham goth scene. .. All going well you’ll be able to download the interview from this site pretty soon.

11 April 2006

April Nightmare - Is on a FRIDAY.

Yes that's right this months Nightmare is on Friday the 14th of April at Sugar Bar rather than our usual Saturday slot. Times, prices and DJ's are all the same we're just a day early this month, rest assured that as of May normal service resumes.

But the good news is I've got some absolutely killer tracks for you all, in fact I'm so excited that I almost cant wait to play them to you. They're *that* good. (In fact I couldn't wait, I played most of 'em at DJ Corum's birthday party, repeatedly!)

And..

Bigger Better Sound

We've come up with a bit of a solution to last months 'OK but not awesome' sound on the dancefloor, so all going well they'll be more bosh to the beats in April!

06 April 2006

Lost at Nightmare!!

Our arty girl little Em has lost her silver 'US MARSHALL' badge somewhere in the club, it was a prezzie from a friend and she'd really like it back.

So if you get it back to us, we'll let you and a mate in free.... No questions asked.

Cheers

Gadge

01 April 2006

Righto! A veritable feast of news this month as no end of exciting things happen in the Nightmare camp this month.

First off:

And then.

Nightmare DJ's at Whitby!

Anyone going to Whitby this year is in for a double helping of 'mare. Firstly at the main event in the spa DJ Gadge Europa will be playing a few sets on the Friday night... and if you cant/don't want to get into the main event then Nightmare stalwart Urban Cannibal will be playing the Whitby Alternative at Laughtons nightclub in the town on the Friday night. either way you'd be mad to miss us. You can get the full details *here*.

And cos we're mad..

Nightmare 'Urban Warfare'

Right who fancies a day of stalking round a ruined industrial complex, carrying a state of the art assault rifle and blowing the crap out of your mates.. all to some stomping Industrial music? Thought you might, well read on.

Nightmare is organising an Urban Warfare 'airsoft' day for 30 of our most hardcore clubbers. Full details to follow but were provisionally looking at a Sunday in July, it'll cost you about 30 quid and that will include hire of a fully automatic BB gun spitting white death (well ok plastic pellets to be truthful) at over 300 foot per second and 600 rounds per minute! You also get a bag full of ammo (about 500 but you can buy more at £10 for 3000) protective face mask and (if you really want em) some camouflage overalls, but we'd prefer it if we all gamed in cyberpunk style stuff! The venue is a fantastic ruined factory complex and offices just outside Nottingham! If you want in on this then you need to mail us via the websites contact section with a subject heading of "urban warfare" and we'll probably need a £20 deposit off you, payable at the club or via paypal. More details to follow.

And lastly:

Super Summer Special Sexy Saturday

How's that for alliteration... Nightmare is teaming up with Leicester's Intelekt and Autonomy to bring you a awesome three floor allnighter. More details soon but this will be one of the biggest clubnights outside of London and you'd have to be mad or dead to miss it!

We're talking about three floors of industrial and electro from 9pm til 6am, dancfloors, pool room, chill out bar the works... watch this space!

27 February 2006

Hey Boi, Hey Girl…

Nightmare’s back, bigger and better than ever before!*

You may have heard (well you have now…) that Nightmare has found a new home at the rather wicked Sugar Bar in Hockley in Nottingham, yep its few metres up the road from our old venue of Bar None but a lot bigger…

AND… we’ve got an extra hour so you can now dance like a loon til 3am instead of the dull old 2am licence we used to have.. cant say we don’t do stuff for you eh?

What’s more we’ve recently taken on a new resident DJ. *DJ Corum* learnt his skills at Manchester’s renowned Rock Kitchen and has also been a regular contributor to Nightmare and Notts Trent Uni’s ‘Assault’.

And the observant among you may have noticed we have a sparkly new website! Have a look around, tell us what you think (actually if you think its shite then don’t bother…).

You’ll also notice that we’re now back on SATURDAYS! Yay, celebrate yeehaa and all that… (except Aprils date which is a Friday.. confusing eh?)

Right my sexydethchics and industrialbois.. I shall hopefully see you all there…

Hugs
Gadge & the Nightmare team.

*Slight lie the Old Vic we used about five years ago was *marginally* bigger…

13 January 2006
